Tomi Ungerer, born in 1931 in Strasbourg, works as a painter, illustrator, children’s book author and graphic artist, and now lives with his family in Ireland and in Strasbourg. Tomi Ungerer has been awarded with numerous prizes, including the ›Federal Cross of Merit‹ for his contribution to German-French cultural understanding and the ›Hans Christian Andersen Preis‹, an award which is regarded as the ›Nobel Prize‹ of children’s literature. In October 2000 he was named as an ambassador for children and education by the European Council. In 2007 the French state dedicated a museum to Tomi Ungerer in his home town of Strasbourg. Tomi Ungerer’s books are published in 40 languages.
