Bernhard Schlink, born near Bielefeld in1944, is a professor of law and lives in Berlin and New York. The 1995 novel The Reader (Stephen Daldry’s film version, starring Kate Winslet, David Kross and Ralph Fiennes, won an Oscar and a Golden Globe in 2009) has been translated into 45 languages, awarded with national and international prizes, and established Bernhard Schlink’s worldwide renown as an author.
